I. DESCRIPTION
SEPPIC offers a new range ofSpecialty Alkoxylated Surfactantswhich offer specific properties : wetting and/or low foaming and/or defoaming.
II. PROPERTIES
This new range of alkoxylated surfactants have been evaluated for their wetting, low foaming and antifoaming properties.
1. WETTING PERFORMANCE :
Results obtained at 0.1% active matter are shown in Figure 1.
SIMULSOL NW 342andSIMULSOL NW 900give the best wetting performance.

Note : the wetting time of SIMULSOL 1196 HR is higher than 300 seconds at 60°C.
2. LOW FOAMING PERFORMANCE :
Foaming properties have been measured at 0.1% active matter with a bubbling method at 20°C and 60°C.
Results are expressed by three parameters :
- Initial foam;
- Foam after 30 seconds;
- Foam after 2 minutes.
Figure 2 shows thatSIMULSOL NW 342generates less foam at 20°C thanSIMULSOL NW 900andSIMULSOL 1196 HR.
Furthermore, the foam produced bySIMULSOL NW 342is totally extinguished after 2 minutes.

Increasing temperature, dramatically decreases the volume of foam produced :SIMULSOL NW 342andSIMULSOL 1196 HRdo not produce any foam at 60°C as shown in Figure 3.

3. DEFOAMING PERFORMANCE :
Defoaming effect has been measured at 50°C with milk as the soil using a kitchen aid rotor to produce foam.
The test formulation is the following :
Sodium tripolyphosphate | 0.20 g |
Sodium metasilicate 5H2O | 0.25 g |
Sodium carbonateMilk | 0.15 g |
Milk | 15 g |
Surfactant | x |
Water | balance to 200 ml |
Results obtained at 60 ppm and 120 ppm concentration of alkoxylated surfactants are summarised in Figure 4.
SIMULSOL NW 342is the most effective in destroying foam produced by milk.
